Sara McKethan (b. 1997, Kerrville, TX) is a surrealist and feminist artist based in San Antonio, Texas. Currently pursuing her BFA in Painting at The University of Texas at San Antonio (expected 2026), McKethan creates absurdist sculptures that employ nonsensical contradictions to place viewers in states of vulnerability, bewilderment, and discomfort.

McKethan's work responds to contemporary anxieties—the volatility of our political climate, the pervasive weight of patriarchal structures, and the tragicomedy inherent in human existence. Her latest work pushes deeper into psychological territory, seeking to reveal and provoke the admission of one's hidden perversions and uncomfortable truths. Through her practice, she seeks both to critique the world around her and honor the legacy of those who challenged systems before her. Her interdisciplinary approach, rooted in surrealist traditions, examines the contradictions that define modern life while maintaining a distinctly feminist perspective.

Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout San Antonio, including shows at the San Antonio Museum of Art, UTSA Main Art Gallery, and Blue Star Arts Complex. McKethan has served as curator for several exhibitions, notably "Good Art Exhibition" at 136 Blue Star Arts Complex and "New Artist Exhibition" at The Annex, where she has championed emerging voices in the San Antonio arts community. Her curatorial work demonstrates her commitment to fostering dialogue within the San Antonio arts scene.

Beyond her studio practice, McKethan serves as Gallery Assistant and Social Media Manager at Art Gallery Prudencia, bringing her artistic sensibilities to the presentation of other artists' work. She has also contributed to the literary arts, with poetry published in Voices de la Luna: A Quarterly Literature and Arts Magazine. Her interdisciplinary background includes studies in psychology, liberal arts, and graphic design, informing her nuanced approach to human behavior and visual communication.

McKethan's work is held in several private collections and has been recognized with the James C. Elmore II Memorial Scholarship. She has been represented by Art Gallery Prudencia since 2022. She continues to exhibit regularly throughout Texas while developing her practice as both artist and cultural organizer in San Antonio's vibrant arts scene.
